Opening Plenary
The faculty will discuss how community members, patients and families, clinicians and staff are engaged in collaborative efforts to improve patient safety; describe their journey toward effective partnerships; and explain how new communication strategies such as simulation training are changing the way providers are interacting with patients and delivering safer care.

Keynote Session
Roger Nierenberg – The Music Paradigm
This exciting, interactive and inspiring event features live, professional symphony musicians as a component of the program. The symphony, a metaphor for dynamic, complex organizations, demonstrates how senior administrators lead teams. During the session, the participants will be seated among musicians and perform while the conductor leads them through a series of carefully crafted exercises that powerfully demonstrate the critical truths about leadership. This promises to be a truly unique development experience!

In order to maximize the learning experience for our attendees, the format for this symposium will include concurrent sessions for the core lectures:

Concurrent Sessions
Med-Sim Lab: Collaboration and Technology Innovation
This session will offer an experience that will demonstrate how healthcare simulation can be used as a hands-on methodology for teaching critical patient safety topics and improving the delivery of healthcare.
A Baptist Health Med-Sim Lab expert will present case scenarios and effective debriefing techniques. As every organization strives for safer patient care, this session will address the importance of enhanced accountability and responsibility throughout the organization using a method that is becoming a national standard for delivering effective and robust methods and techniques for improving patient safety. Attendees will gain knowledge about healthcare simulation and a deeper understanding and appreciation for ways in which simulation may be applied to diverse, multidisciplinary healthcare environments.

The Patient and Family Perspective
Partnership is the foundation for patient- and family-centered care success. During this presentation, we will illustrate how partnerships can help build a community of healthcare providers, administrators, ancillary staff, patients and families coming together to define best practices, share resources, connect with peers and access support and tools for integrating patient- and family-centered care into their organizations.

The Team Approach – Transforming Care Through Partnerships
This presentation will demonstrate how we can improve quality of care for patients through a comprehensive community effort designed to incorporate evidence-based guidelines for treatment and quality reporting and improvements following the National Quality Strategy.
