Symposium Overview

The primary care practitioner has the special and important responsibility to diagnose and manage patients with every category of ailment, injury and disease. This symposium will provide practical, evidence-based strategies to strengthen healthcare competencies. Expert faculty will explain recent advances in diagnosis, management and treatment and address compelling issues as they relate to inflammatory bowel disease, obesity, food psychology, hormone replacement therapy, sexually transmitted diseases, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C, psoriasis, facts and fiction surrounding medical marijuana, pancreatic cancer, targeted therapy, genitourinary cancer screenings, gynecologic oncology and multiple myeloma. There will be ample opportunity for Q&A with the faculty during the panel discussion.

Dr. Ozner is one of America’s leading advocates for heart disease prevention. He is a well-known regional and national speaker in the field of preventive cardiology. Dr. Ozner has frequently appeared in the print, radio and television media including The New York Times, NPR radio and CBS News. He was the recipient of the 2008 American Heart Association Humanitarian Award and has been elected to Top Cardiologists in America by the Consumer Council of America. Dr. Ozner is also the author of The Great American Heart Hoax and Heart Attack Proof. His most recent book, The Complete Mediterranean Diet, was released worldwide April 2014.

Dr. Nasir’s area of expertise lies in population health management, role of cardiovascular imaging for identification of high-risk individuals with a particular emphasis on innovative health care delivery based paradigms to improve patient outcomes and appropriate resource allocation. Dr. Nasir is a recipient of the NIH training award for cardiac imaging training program at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA. Dr. Nasir has published more than 290 publications in his area of interest. He is an Associate Editor for the journal, “Atherosclerosis”, “Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes” and “Journal of American Cardiology: Cardiac Imaging” as well serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Cardiac CT. He is currently the chair of prevention council for the Society of Atherosclerosis Imaging and Prevention as well member of board of directors for Society for Cardiac CT (SCCT). He was awarded in 2013 for his contributions the “Johns Hopkins Distinguished Alumni Award”, which honors alumni who have typified the Johns Hopkins tradition of excellence and brought credit to the University by their personal accomplishment, professional achievement, or humanitarian service.

Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine, Florida International University Wertheim College of Medicine, Miami, Florida

Dr. Feldman is extensively involved in clinical research and education in cardiovascular disease prevention. He serves as a Symposium Director for the International Symposium on Cardiovascular Disease Prevention, one of the largest and most prestigious such meetings in the US. He also is Symposium Director of the Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute Comprehensive Cardiovascular Symposium. Board-certified in internal medicine with a subspecialty in cardiovascular medicine, Dr. Feldman currently serves as Medical Director of Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute at South Miami Hospital and is a Medical Director for the Center for Prevention and Wellness at Baptist Health South Florida. Dr. Feldman is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine as well as the Cardiology Clerkship director at FIU and an interviewer for the FIU HWCOM Admissions committee. Dr. Feldman is in private practice in South Miami and is a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of Heartwell LLP, a large single specialty cardiovascular practice closely affiliated with Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute.

Confirmations will be sent to acknowledge registrations received by Friday, February 12. Registrations will not be processed or confirmed without full payment. Cancelation fee of $25 applies after February 12.

Guest Attendance Policy

All symposium activities (including educational sessions, meal functions, exhibit hall, etc.) are exclusively reserved for conference attendees. Non-registered guests (including children, family members, colleagues, etc.) are not allowed in the conference areas. Badges provided at registration are required for entrance into all functions and will be strictly enforced.

No photography or recording of presentations is allowed in the General Session, unless authorized by Baptist Health South Florida.
